One day in September 2001, some of our Brothers left their homes to go to work. Some were preparing to go home after their tour. Suddenly, the alarm come in for the World Trade Center , I'm sure they sensed it could be bad. All of them mounted the rigs and went to war. One Brother ,,,took his gear strapped it on his back and ran through the Brooklyn Battery tunnel, all driven by their dedication and unbelievable work ethic.
Throughout the battle, the steel protected them as they pushed up the stairs to complete their mission. The steel , like Atlas holding the world ,would protect them as long as its physical characteristic would allow.
After the collapse and diligent search was completed, a couple of steel workers, overwhelmed by the tragedy took a piece of that steel and began cutting out crosses. I can't imagine what was going through their minds while they were working, I'm sure there were many tears shed during this endeavor.
Where did these crosses go? Our brother Rich Ochmann was able to aquaire one and donated it to the Club. Ed Rizzo stepped up and made the Maltese cross which will house the cross. Then it was placed on Bob Ogren's Memorial golf cart.
We will never forget
